Electrical Technician (Traffic Systems)

Our Traffic Systems team develops and supports the traffic signaling systems that monitor and control traffic at NJ intersections and roadways. We are currently seeking a Technician to build, configure and support a variety of traffic related electronic devices and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble traffic signal cabinets according to customer specifications by installing wiring, panel boards, controllers, vehicle and pedestrian detectors, and vehicle preemption devices.
  • Configure signal controllers by reading and interpreting timing directives.
  • Test all traffic devices for quality assurance; test all wiring systems, electrical components and circuitry.
  • Provide technical support to customers; respond to technology related inquiries and emergency calls; provide technical support via phone or in person to resolve routine problems; troubleshoot and reconfigure or repair devices at existing signalized intersections
  • Assist customers with activating new intersection controllers and cabinet installations, to ensure all devices are working as required.

Training and Experience:

Candidates are not required to have prior training in traffic systems and equipment, however they must possess basic electrical and computer skills, such as:

  • Completion of vocational, technical or specialized training in electrical technology, electronic technology or closely related field
  • Completion of four years successful experience installing, maintaining and repairing electrical components, equipment or systems; OR two years’ experience configuring traffic signal controllers for transportation systems
  • Valid New Jersey driver’s license

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficiency with schematic symbol systems, voltage transformers operations, principles of electricity (volts/ohm meters, voltage generators, and signal tracers) and electrical testing/troubleshooting techniques for wiring systems and electrical components
  • Functional knowledge of computer networking
  • Ability to analyze, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software related problems
  • Ability to integrate various electronic devices to function together in a computer networking environment
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic drawings to determine job specifications and installation needs
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse group of people

Nature and Scope of Position:

  • Professional level position that requires independent thinking and decision-making and cooperation with a variety of municipal executives, contractors and laborers
  • May work in a variety of locations and conditions, including in-house shop area, client operations centers and job-sites/intersections in varying weather conditions.
  • Involves frequent extensive daytime travel.
  • May be require work hours in addition to the regular work schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays for on-call technical support.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, push, pull, walk on all types of terrain and lift 50 lbs.

 


 

Network Technician (Transportation Systems)

Our Transportation Systems team develops and supports the telecommunications networks that provide surveillance and traffic monitoring along NJ roadways. We are currently seeking an experienced Technician to build, configure and support communications devices and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, configure and troubleshoot communications cabinets and network integration devices, including CCTV encoders and decoders, terminal servers, Ethernet switches, modems, wireless devices, cables and wires to connect data communications hardware
  • Assemble, configure and troubleshoot networking devices including VPNs, Layer 2 and 3 switches, VLANS, Network Security, Multiple subnet networks, Wireless communication technology utilizing RSSI and PER readings, wireless radio interference testing snoopers, and multicasting
  • Test all new devices for quality assurance; test all wiring systems, electrical components and circuitry
  • Perform client-site integration testing of communications devices; ensure accurate end-to-end processes and sound design and functionality within customer networks; check operations of Local Area Networks (LAN) and related equipment
  • Provide technical support to customers via phone and on-site at existing installations and operations centers, including emergency calls.

Training and Experience:

Candidates are not required to have prior training in Transportation Systems, however they must possess proficient computer networking and telecommunication skills:

  • Completion of vocational, technical or specialized training in computer technology, networking, telecommunications or closely related field
  • Completion of four years successful experience installing, maintaining and repairing communications components, equipment or systems; OR two years’ experience configuring networks for transportation systems
  • Experience working in data centers and field locations in varying weather conditions
  • Valid New Jersey driver’s license

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Working knowledge of mathematics, electronics, computer networking and telecommunications technology (including copper, fiber and wireless), standard computer networking/integration methods and protocol
  • Expert knowledge of computer terminology and protocols involving mainframe systems, data communication networks and hardware equipment installation, such as modems, lines, control units, switched networks and computerized switching
  • Basic knowledge of electrical principles and electrical testing/troubleshoot techniques for wiring systems OR ability to complete electrical training
  • Basic knowledge of CAD or similar drawing/documentation software is a plus
  • Ability to analyze, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software related problems; ability to integrate various electronic devices to function together in a computer networking environment
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic drawings to determine job specifications and installation needs
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse group of people

Nature and Scope of Position:

  • Professional level position that requires independent thinking and decision-making with minimal supervision:
  • Will work in a variety of locations and conditions, including shop area, client operations centers and job-sites
  • Involves frequent daytime travel.

Production Assemblers

We are currently seeking Production Assemblers to perform mechanical assembly of a variety of traffic related equipment, assemblies, sub-assemblies and hardware components. We have 3 levels of Assemblers – each with varying skills and levels of decision-making and independent working. Candidates will be hired based on their current skills and advance to the next level as appropriate. Candidates with required electrical and computer skills may further advance to Assembly Technicians.

Responsibilities
Level 1: Assembly Only
Develop functional knowledge of basic cabinet assembly and components installation such as lights, fans, thermostats, receptacles, landing wires; relies on others to perform and approve testing. Must have working knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures within the electrical field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform functions under direct supervision. Performs routine tasks with ongoing training. Minimal degree of latitude to change processes, but initiation and flexibility of work tasks is encouraged. Relies on Team Leader to coordinate day-to-day tasks.

Level 2: Assembly, Testing and Troubleshooting
Develop working knowledge of cabinet assembly and component installation including landing wires and unit testing for power; able to analyze and troubleshoot problems; requires assistance and approval from Team Lead for final resolution. Proficient with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the traffic and electrical field. Relies on successful experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals, under general supervision. Performs a variety of routine and unique tasks with ongoing training. Some amount of creativity and latitude expected to communicate and initiate ideas. Relies on Team Lead to coordinate day-to-day tasks.

Level 3: Assembly, Testing, Troubleshooting and Resolution
Proficient knowledge of cabinet assembly, devices, and landing wires, unit tests devices, connectivity and power; troubleshoots and resolves problems. Relies on successful experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals with limited supervision. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. May lead and direct work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Relies on Team Lead to coordinate weekly tasks.

Basic Duties of all Assemblers:

  • Preparing for work by studying the detailed parts lists, the manufacturer and assembly instructions, requisitioning required components and tools and then staging work-space for building.
  • Assembling hardware parts and components using standard hand or power tools and techniques to produce mechanical products.
  • Performing assembly of traffic cabinets or other electronic equipment such as controllers, wire terminations, wire harnesses, cable assemblies, relays, switches and monitors to produce traffic equipment.
  • Prepare equipment for testing and inspection or perform those duties when fully trained
  • Perform quality assurance checks throughout the assembly process.
  • Perform shipping, receiving and delivery functions as necessary
  • Maintain a clean, organized work environment at all times. Adhere to company safety policies and procedures.
  • Meet established daily productivity and quality goals for assembled products and completed work orders.

Qualifications
Knowledge: Functional knowledge of efficiency (production and quality) operational protocols, including quotas and time management; ability to develop a functional knowledge of hundreds of parts, their descriptions and uses.

Skills: Proficient use of hand and power tools and basic hardware; expert organizational skills – able to organize paperwork and physical work areas; proficient communications skills – both oral and written to read, comprehend and write detailed instructions; working level analytical skills to interpret specifications, instructions and drawings; forklift certified or ability to obtain certification

Ability to: Act with Integrity at all times, be accountable for personal assignments, collaborate in a team environment; be flexible in changing circumstances and communicate effectively with others.

Education/Experience: High School diploma or GED equivalent; 2 years previous assembly experience in a warehouse or industrial setting; prior delivery experience operating a class C oversized vehicle.

Warehouse Associate

We are currently seeking a reliable, hardworking Warehouse Associate to join our growing organization, performing shipping and receiving of materials, managing inventory of parts and do light assembly of products. Keen attention to detail is a must.

Key Accountabilities

  • Receive and log all incoming materials. Complete required paperwork.
  • Inspect products for defects and report damages as required.
  • Stock incoming materials in designated areas; use of forklift and/or pallet jack will be required.
  • Follow established procedures to maintain accurate counts and descriptions of inventory items. Notify supervisor of shortages.
  • Accurately manage all related documentation and procedures for submitting paperwork to front office.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from office staff regarding incoming and outgoing deliveries.
  • Assemble simple hardware and electrical components, using standard mechanical hand tools, following verbal instructions.
  • Fill work orders for customers. Package and prepare shipping documentation. Arrange and oversee shipments for outgoing orders through commercial carriers such as UPS and FedEx.
  • Call customers and vendors to arrange for delivery or pick-up of materials.
  • Deliver products to customers using company vehicles, including 25’ box truck.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work environment.
  • Adhere to company safety policies and procedures. Properly dispose of trash and recyclable materials.
  • Meet established daily productivity and quality goals for assembled products and completed work orders.

Qualifications
The Warehouse Associate should have prior experience in a warehouse environment, be mechanically inclined, and have good organizational skills for managing paperwork.

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Previous assembly, production or general warehouse/light industrial experience.
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to work with various customers, vendors and internal staff.
  • Forklift certified, or ability to obtain certification.
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to learn and work with hundreds of small parts their descriptions and part numbers.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment – scanners, copiers and personal computers.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time with physical stamina and dexterity; able to lift, twist, bend and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Clean background history, including driving record.
